Yellow Scarves
Dong Zhou
Yuan Shu
- You begin the game in Lou Sang village. Speak to Zhang Shi Ping near the bridge to receive 200 gold coins and 1000 rations. You'll also find two generals Song Ren and Song Yong who will join you. They aren't very powerful, but they're better than nothing. Be sure to equip the weapons you have before heading out.
- Leave the village and head west to Xu Zhou. Speak to Tao Qian in the palace and he will promise to make you his heir if you defeat the Yellow Scarves. In one of the houses you'll find Mi Zhe, who will make a good starting tactician.
- Go north and defeat Zhang Liang to take Qing Zhou. Defeat Ma Yuan Yi inside and he will tell you where the second Yellow Scarves leader is at.
- West from Xu Zhou you find Mt. Da Xing, held by Zhang Bao.
- Go south from Xu Zhou to Tie Men Xia Fortress to defeat Zhang Jao, the leader of the Yellow Scarves.
- Fight Han Zhong in a random battle somewhere in the area and convert him to your side.
- Enter the cave behind Qing Zhou Castle and talk to the soldier there with Han Zhong in the lead. A bridge will be created allowing you to cross the water.
- Attack the three Zhangs at the end of the cave to defeat the Yellow Scarves for good. Alternately, you can skip Han Zhong and the cave and attack
- Qing Zhou directly, though you'll have to fight Cheng Yuan Zhi and Zheng Mao in addition to the three Zhang brothers which will make it a more difficult battle.
- Return to Tao Qian in Xu Zhou and Liu Bei will become the ruler of Xu Zhou. He will leave your party and you will be joined by Liu Feng, his adopted son, instead.
Dong Zhou
- Go south from Jie Men Xia fortress and defeat Hua Xiong at Fan Shui Guan.
- Enter the cave northwest of Fan Shui Guan to get the Gold Key. As you leave the cave, Guan Ping will offer to join you.
- Continue west to Hu Lao Guan and defeat the powerful Lu Bu.
- Continue on to Lou Yang where you have to defeat both Dong Zhou and Lu Bu.
- Enter the northwest building in Luo Yang and use the Gold Key on the red square to find the Gemsword.
- Go west to Yang Zhou and use the Gemsword on Lu Bu to convert him to your side. You will probably have to offer it to him several times before he accepts it. Defeat the other armies to take Yang Zhou.
- Speak to Cao Cao and the Emperor in the dungeon of Yang Zhou Castle. They will return to Lou Yang.
- Go through the cave just outside then go west and destroy Dong Zhou at Chang An.
Yuan Shu
- Destroy Lei Bo's army at Yuan Castle south of Chang An.
- Go southwest from Yuan to Huai Nan Castle and defeat Ji Ling's army there.
- Defeat Han Xian at Chen Cang to the north and get a letter from Xu Yuan Zhi.
- Speak to Shui Jing in a house southeast of Chen Cang and he will tell you about Fu Long and Feng Chu.
- North of Chen Cang near Nan Yang you'll find a cave. The cave is optional, but you'll find several new weapons and other treasures inside.
- Attack Yuan Shu at Nan Yang Castle and destroy his army. If you attack from the west, you'll be able to do more damage to Yuan Shu's army. When he demands that you let him go, refuse three times and he will be executed.
- Buy the Silver Key from the man in the northeast corner of Nan Yang Castle for 4000 gold coins.
- When you cross the bridge north of Nan Yan, Yuan Shao will attack you with a strong army. If you converted Lu Bu to your side with the Gemsword earlier, he will defect. After attacking you for one round, Yuan Shao will withdraw.
- Go north then east and defeat Lu Guang at Bo Hai Castle.
- In one of the houses you'll find Shui Jing. Tell him you've been to the cave and he will give you the Gun Powder.
- Enter the cave northwest of Nan Yang and use the Gun Powder to blow away the rocks in the northwest corner. Ask Dan Fu, also know as Xu Zhe, to join you party.
- Return to Bo Hai and talk to Xu Zhe's wife with him in your party. She will move out of your way and you'll be able to cross the bridge.
- Defeat Xu Shou who is guarding the prison east of Bo Hai and use the Silver Key to free Zhao Yun's sister. She will give you a letter.
- Give the letter to Zhao Yun in front of Guang Zong Castle and he will join you. Continue on and take the castle.
- Defeat Yuan Shao and his generals at Ji Zhou Castle. If you released Yuan Shu earlier, he will join the battle as well.
- Go west and then south from Nan Yang. Follow the road south and east and you'll come across four houses. Eventually, you'll come to Wu Ling Castle where you'll have to fight Jin Xuan.
- Defeat Han Xuan at Chang Sha Castle southeast of Wu Ling. Huang Zhong, one of the five tigers, will join your party inside as well as Wei Yan, another powerful warlord.
- Continue south to Gui Yang where you'll be allowed inside. The ruler Zhao Fan, in the palace will offer hosptiality. Refuse several times and he will attack you.
- Go northwest from Gui Yang to Ling Ling Castle and defeat Liu Du to restore peace to Jing Zhou.
- Return to Gui Yang and speak to Liu Bei in the palace with Xu Zhe in your party. He will receive a letter from his mother and leave your party. As you leave the castle, he will tell you about Zhu Ge Liang.
- Cross the bridge west of Nan Yang and follow the path south to Zhu Ge Liang's house. His brother will tell you that he went to Lou Sang village.
- Go to Lou Sang (the village where you started the game) and speak to Cui Zhou Ping. He will tell you that Zhu Ge Liang has left.
- Return to his house again and his brother will tell you that he left again.
- Go to Nan Yang and invite Liu Bei to the palace. He will tell you that Zhu Ge Liang's brother left a message that his brother was back.
- Return to Zhu Ge Liang's house to find him sleeping. Do not wake him up and wait for a few seconds. Zhu Ge Liang will wake up and tell you to meet him at Gui Yang Castle.
- Go to Giu Yang and speak to Zhu Ge Liang in the palace. He will tell you about the trouble in Shu and will join your party.
- Enter the kingdom of Shu southwest of Ling Ling Castle and defeat Liu Kui at the fortress far to the southwest.
- Go north and defeat the rebel leader at Fu Shui Castle. Enter the palace and press against the door several times to open it and free Liu Zheng. You may need to try stronger members of your party to open the door.
- Speak to the blacksmith east of Fu Shui and he will ask you for some Iron from Mt. Gang Tai.
- Go north from Fu Shui to Luo Castle and defeat Ma Chao, the last of the five tigers. He will ask to join your party at the end of the battle.
- In Luo, you will hear that Liu Zheng has betrayed Liu Bei and joined Han Zhong's army.
- Enter Mt Gang Tai to the south and find the Iron Ore in one of the chests there. Give it to the swordsmith east of Fu Shui.
- Pass through Mt Gang Tai and defeat Li Yan at Main Zhu Guan fortress on the other side.
- Continue on to Cheng Du and defeat Liu Zheng there to conquer Shu.
- Invite Liu Bei to Cheng Du and he will tell you that a swordsmith was looking for you. Return to the swordsmith east of Fu Shui to learn that the swords he made were stolen.
- Return to Liu Bei where Guan Yu and Zhang Fei will leave the party to rule Chang Sha and Gui Yang. You will then learn of an attack against Jing Zhou by Sun Quan of Wu.
- Go to Chang Sha where Guan Xing, the son of Guan Yu, will join your party in the palace.
- Zhang Fei's son Zhang Bao will join your party in Gui Yang.
- Defeat Ling Tong to recapture Ling Ling and Fan Zhang to recapture Wu Ling in Jing Zhou.
- Return to Liu Bei in Cheng Du where he will declare himself the Emperor of China and charge you to defeat Sun Quan of Wu and Cao Pi of Wei.
- Cross the new bridge south of Gui Yang to enter Wu.
- Defeat Gan Ning to take Jian An Castle.
- Check the ground below the tree in the top left corner of Jian An to find Dead Wood.
- Enter the cave to the north where you'll find Saltpeter.
- Give the Saltpeter and Dead Wood to an old man in Jian An and he will clear the canal for you.
- Head south to Hui Ji fortress and defeat Zhou Yu. Beware of his An Sha tactic.
- Defeat Zhu Ge Jin at Wu Castle east of Hui Ji.
- Enter the cave to the south where you will find Nu Long, one of the swords crafted by the blacksmith in Shu, in one of the chests.
- Pass through the cave and take Po Yang fortress and Jin Du Castle from Sun Quan's warlords.
- Defeat the pirates far to the south and one of the residents of Jin Du will give you Qing Long as a reward.
- Continue on to Jian Ye Castle and defeat both Tai Si Ci and Sun Quan to conquer Wu.
- Go northeast of Jian Ye Castle to Guang Ling Castle and defeat Zhang Liao.
- Inside Guang Ling Castle you will find Jiang Wei who wants to study under Zhu Ge Liang and will offer to join you.
- Attack Cao Pi at He Fei fortress to the north. He will retreat after you defeat his army.
- Go southwest and attack Cao Pi again at Ru Nan Castle. After you defeat him, Si Ma Yi will arrive and drive you away with his thunder attack.
- You will wake up in Jian Ye. Speak to Liu Bei in the palace to learn that Guan Yu's son, Guan Suo, found you after Si Ma Yi's attack and suggests you speak to him.
- Go to Chang Sha Castle and speak to Guan Suo in the palace. He will tell you how to counter Si Ma Yi's thunder.
- Return to Si Ma Yi at Ru Nan Castle and press up, up, down, down, left, right, up, down as he casts his thunder spell to counter it. After you defeat his army, he will retreat.
- Walk into the mountains at the west end of Ru Nan to enter a tunnel.
- After passing through the first cave you will have to pass through a second cave before you can fight Si Ma Yi again at Chen Liu fortress.
- Go north and defeat Xun Huo at Chin castle.
- There is a bridge leading back to Lou Yang north of Chin Castle. Defeat Si Ma Yi's two sons at Lou Yang and then defeat Si Ma Yi one last time to bring peace to China.
- Enter the rebuilt Lou Yang and speak to the historian to invite Liu Bei to the palace. After you have spoken to Liu Bei, the game will finally be finished.
