The story in Dragon Quest IV is a more character-focused one centering on the lives of the Chosen. Before the quest to prevent the resurrection of the evil ruler Estark, the story's first four chapters are about the hero's companions and their challenges and tribulations. As they each traveled with goals and dreams in mind. But eventually they uncover Psaro the Manslayer's conspiracy to drive the human race to extinction by the evil forces of Estark.
