“ I think the will to change the future is still an important one. We must try to change things around us, little by little. Even if it is one step at a time, and even if everything is already pre-determined, it's not something for us to be sad about. No. On the contrary; the future is overflowing with hope. And we have infinite paths to choose from.  —Shion's final words in Episode III. ”

Shion Uzuki (シオン・ウヅキ) is the main protagonist and heroine of the Xenosaga series, with the exception of Xenosaga: Pied Piper, which focuses on Ziggy. She is the daughter of Suou Uzuki and Aoi Uzuki, and younger sister of Jin Uzuki.

In the beginning of the series, Shion is a Camelle Vector Industries First R&D Division computer scientist and programmer. She helped build KOS-MOS to combat the Gnosis because her deceased boyfriend Kevin Winnicot, original creator of KOS-MOS, was unexpectedly killed by the KOS-MOS Archetype.

In Xenosaga Episode I, Shion is Head and Chief Engineer of the KOS-MOS Project. Shion eventually quits Vector and joins the anti-U.M.N. underground resistance Scientia by Episode III. Shion seeks to save the universe from the Gnosis, as well as from an ancient religious cult known as Ormus.

“Because of a certain phenomenon, our world is on the path to destruction. The universe is slowly but surely being destroyed. No one can stop it, even if they had the power of God. But do not despair. There is one way to save this universe. If we are fated to die, then we shall stop our history at a certain point, and restart it. And we shall repeat that process, eternally. —Wilhelm, explaining his belief to a young Kevin Winnicot. ”
Wilhelm (VEEL-helm) is merely one of his many names. He is also known as Mr. Wilhelm. As a major figure of Ormus, he is known as Cardinal Heinlein and Lord Heinlein. After the current pope is killed in Episode II, Wilhelm becomes the new pope by Episode III. Lord/Cardinal Heinlein is also a Hyams Group representative.

He also served as the Executive Committee Director of the Galaxy Federation, up to a decade ago.
As Heinlein, he is also the leader of a religious cult based on Christianity known as Ormus, which existed in the era of Lost Jerusalem.
