There are 3 main Battle Types in SDBH but Elite and Berserker are locked for your hero initially. All cards belong to 3 different Battle Types in the game (with the exception of SP), these are Hero, Berserker and Elite. All Hero Avatar characters begin with Hero unlocked. This is the standard version of the card, balanced both offensively and defensively. If you want to change it up and switch to Berserker or Elite, you need to unlock them. Thankfully, unlocking both is rather easy.
Reach level 8 with your Avatar to unlock Elite Type and then reach level 12 to unlock Berserker. If you change your race or otherwise reset your Avatars level, you will retain the Battle Types you have already unlocked.
