Since Brian is a Spirit Tamer his first tool for anything is his magic. Spells are based on how many elements he has to summon various Spirits. He gains an element either by finding a Spirit (as a little wisp) or gaining 100% experience from battle he levels up in one of four elements.

To cast a spell press a C button to summon a Spirit of that element. Up is Fire, left is Earth, down is Water, and right is Wind. The first element used determines the element of the spell to be cast. The spell that Brian will cast appears under his HP and MP meter. Other spells Brian can cast by adding more elements appear in the middle of the screen with the spell in the C button direction of the element needed. Spells that are faded cannot be presently cast, and spells in red require more MP. Press A to cast the spell or B to go down one element level. Casting a spell will use MP, and the more elements required the more MP is used.

Lvl Elemental level required for the spell.
Cmb Elemental combination E=Earth, F=Fire, W=Water, A=Air (i.e. Wind).
Damg Amount of damage related to Elemental level, multiply by .5 if used on a monster of the same element, and by 1.25 of the opposite elements (i.e. Fire and Water, Earth and Wind).
Cond Any status or conditional changes the spell causes.

Fire Magic

Fire Ball 2 4 FF 3.0 two light red fire ball with tail from the caster to target " Two fire balls instead of one.
Power Staff 7 FE NA red pillar over caster Increase the power of your Staff Attack. Supplements your staff if your elements aren't high.
Homing Arrow 10 FA 0.6 three light red arrows curve from caster towards target Deadly arrows track down and spear the monster. Useless in battle, useful for defence building.
Hot Steam 13 FW 4.0 puff of red-orange gas from the caster Cook'em like lobsters. Strong and damages crowding monsters.
Fire Ball 3 16 FFF 3.0 three light red fire ball with tail from the caster to target " Three times the good stuff.
Compression 19 FFA NA red jagged concentric helix (tornado) over target Shrink the monster and weaken its attack. Too bad this works commonly on already weak monsters.
Power Staff 2 22 FEE NA tall red pillar over caster " Double the pleasure of beating stuff with a stick.
Fire Pillar 24 FFW 4.9 tall thin pillar of light red fire with splash back in front of the caster Send a wall of flame up and over your enemy. Impressive to look at but horrible range.
Homing Arrow 2 28 FAA 0.6 five light red arrows curve from caster towards target " Five times the garbage.
Fire Bomb 30 FFE 3.9 white sphere with red edges lobs from the caster with brown and red explosion on impact Shoot a large ball of flame at your enemy. Strong but tricky to aim.
Vampire's Touch 32 FEW NA several yellow rays explode (like death sequence) over caster Increase your own HP every time you strike an enemy with the Staff. Works great with Power Staff.
Magma Ball 36 FEA 2.2 three brown and red magma rocks rip the ground spreading from caster Roll a searing near-molten boulder over your target. Get close to multiply the damage.
Extinction 40 FAW NA tall thin pillar of red light with mini brown and red explosion on the target Just like the dinosaur ~ gone forever. Weaken the monsters a bit before resorting to this.
Hot Steam 2 44 FWW 4.0 larger puff of light red gas from the caster " More range for more toasting.

 

Earth Magic

Rock 2 4 EE 3.1 larger rock arcs from caster " Less range but easier to aim.
Spirit Armor 7 EW NA short blue and yellow pillar over caster Become furious and increase your resistance to attack. Extra defence is always helpful.
Rolling Rock 10 EF 2.9 rock rolls horizontally in front of caster Send a huge sharp rock rolling over multiple monsters. Raise the power level to deliver monstrous rocks. Use this to take out rows of monsters
Weakness 13 EA NA purple pillar over target Weaken enemy defenses. This is really only noticeable with strong monsters.
Rock 3 16 EEE 3.1 bolder arcs caster " Least range but easiest to aim.
Magnet Rock 19 EEW 4.9 four large rocks clamp the target Hurl a huge rock that's attracted to monsters. No mess with aiming.
Spirit Armor 2 21 EWW NA blue and yellow pillar over caster " More powerful than Spirit Armor.
Avalanche 24 EEF 4.9 boulders fall from the sky all around caster Boulders fly in from everywhere. Boon spell that makes the quest really easy.
Confusion 27 EFW NA thin sheet of white light rises in front of the caster When an enemy attacks the amount of HP (damage points) are converted to MP. Useful with advance spell usage.
Weakness 2 31 EWA NA purple pillar over targett " Stronger than Weakness 2.
Rock Shower 34 EEA 1.6 shower of diamond shaped stones on targets Rocks fly out from you like shrapnel. Useful to damage all monsters.
Magic Barrier 36 EFA NA tall wide pillar with two spinning encapsulating pink orbs over caster Shield yourself from attack. Invincibility is really useful with the bosses.
Rolling Rock 2 39 EFF 2.9 bolder rolls horizontally in front of caster " Not useful when you get it.
Weak All 43 EAA NA purple pillar over targets Weaken multiple enemy defenses. Not useful when you get it.

 

Water Magic

Water Pillar 1 W 4.1 short small geyser of water in front of caster Drown your victims in a devastating column of water. Move close to your target for maximum effect. Very strong relative to MP usage.
Water Pillar 2 3 WW 4.1 large wide geyser in front of caster " Ditto.
Water Pillar 3 4 WWW 4.1 taller wider geyser of water in front of caster " Able to reach any flying monster.
Healing 6 WE -0.5 short thin white column with bubbles around caster Restore your HP. The most important spell in the game.
Soul Searcher 10 WF NA magnifying glass on target You can view all enemies' statistics. Look at the monster's element then exploit it.
Ice Wall 15 WWE 3.1 puff of light blue gas from the caster Engulf attackers in a fog of deadly frozen water. This may freeze the target.
Ice Knife 17 WWA 2.2 size thin long light blue icicles stab the target Huge sword-like icicle pierce downward into an adversary. Attack surrounding monsters and freeze them as well.
Exit 19 WA NA blue-green pillar over caster Takes you back the beginning of an area. Returns Brian to the entrance of a cave or forest.
Escape 23 WEA NA expanding white wall of light from caster Run away from the attackers. Very useful to avoid pointless battles.
Return 24 WAA NA blue pillar over caster Returns you back the beginning of the level you are currently on. Returns Brian to the last town that gave out wings.
Healing 2 25 WEE -1.25 short thin white column with bubbles around caster Restore your HP. Better than Healing
Soul Searcher 2 33 WFF Soul Searcher magnifying glass on targets "  
Walking Water 35 WWF 2.7 larger wide eyers ripple away from caster Same as the Water Pillar but it moves away from you. Aim this carefully.
Drain Magic 40 WEF 0.00379 CMMP* tall thin dark blue pillar around the target with concentric white rings towards caster This spell will drain the MP from your opponent and transfer them to you. Best range is about three paces away.
Invalidity 46 WAF NA tall pink column around caster Will negate a Freeze Spell. Actually this disenchant Brian removing any good or bad status modifiers.

*CMMP is Current Monster MP. Starting monster MP is the same as its HP and only Drain Magic will deplete it. So if a Brian has 25 Water and attacks a undrained Wyvern, he will take .00379*25*310 = 31MP. Round figures as normal.

 

Wind Magic

Restriction 6 AF NA three white rings bind the target The beast is bound and powerless to attack. Paralyzed enemies are better than you think, they allow Brian more turns in a row.
Evade 8 AW NA short light blue column over target Increase your Agility so you can avoid attacker better. Increases dodging ability but do you really want that?
Silence 10 AE NA giant red X falls on target The monster is stilled and unable to cast Spells. No spell means no attacks, unless they are Earth and have physical ones.
Wind Cutter 3 12 AAA 1.75 five light green blades curves from caster to target " Five blades rushing blades to chip any HP down quickly.
Large Cutter 13 AAF 6 large light green blade shoot in front of caster A larger more intense Wind Cutter. Line then up and mow then down.
Restriction 2 16 AFF NA three white rings bind the targets " Allow for more turns of attack.
Wind Bomb 20 AAW 2.5 puff of light green gas from the caster An explosive blast spreads a shock wave in every direction. This may decrease the monster's agility as well as damage crowds.
Evade 2 24 AWW NA light blue column over target " More powerful than Evade.
Cyclone 28 AAE 3.5 miniature brown and black tornado shoots from the caster The sky dares and a miniature storm slams into an attacker.. Strong but not useful when you get it.
Slow Enemy 32 AFE NA orange column over target Slow your enemy down. Get close to the attacker before using this spell. Allows you to make quick get away's.
Wind Walk 37 AWE NA short pink column over caster Rapidly move in closer to monsters for the Staff attack. Ditto.
Silence 2 42 AEE NA giant red X falls on targets " Less spells mean more turns for you.
Ultimate Wind 47 AFW 1.4 seven light green needles stab the targets A broad blast of air slams into all enemies Not useful by the time you get it.
