Leader of the anti-Shinra group Avalanche, Barret is bent on stopping the production of Mako energy, and saving the life of the planet. It is believed that Barret feels Shinra is responsible for the death of his wife. His only remaining family, is his daughter Marline. Devoted as he is to her, he regrets having to leave her so much.

Barret is fighting the mega-conglomerate Shinra Inc., which has monopolized Mako energy by building special reactors to suck it out of the planet. Barret depends on brute strengh and his "Gun-arm" to see him through. His wife died in an accident several years ago.
